Asian handicaps level a mismatch by adding virtual goals to one team before kick-off. Backing the favourite at โ1.5 means they must win by two clear goals; backing the underdog at +1.5 wins if they avoid losing by two or more. Whole-number handicaps (โ1.0) can push: if the favourite wins by exactly one, stakes are refunded.
Quarter lines (โ0.75, +1.25) split your stake across the two adjacent lines โ half on โ0.5 and half on โ1.0, for instance โ so results can be half-wins and half-losses. Because the draw is engineered out, Asian handicap markets have only two outcomes, typically carry lower margins than 1X2, and are where much of the sharpest football money trades.
ยฃ20 on the favourite at โ0.75 (odds 1.95): a one-goal win pays the โ0.5 half in full and refunds the โ1.0 half โ total return ยฃ29.75, a 'half-win'. A two-goal win pays both halves: ยฃ39.
